I have VERY recently been diagnosed as being PSD although I have had no symptoms I was tested due to my family history. The Haemotologist knows I am on the pill and has not said anything to me about going off. Were any of you told to go off the pill after diagnosis?

Hi Shells,
I suffered a PE in 2000. I wasn't tested for PSD at the time, it was some time later. Once it was diagnosed, I was told that I was never to take the Pill again. Yet, I was told that I could take the Mini Pill. There are risks associated with it, but they are apparently very very low. Basically the choice was mine. And I opted against it. -------------------- Kind Regards Yogi.

I agree with Yogi, safer off the pill

hi, i have psd and have had a dvt due to being on the combined pill. i have been told i can never take it again. however, i have seen two different haematologists and they have both said that i can take the mini pill. its totally up to the individual to choose to take the pill or not, i have chosen to take the mini pill as i'm not ready to start a family yet and to me the risks of getting pregnant far outweighs the risks of being on the mini pill. but as i said, it's up to the individual.

I was told that I should never take the pill again. But I can have the Miridian IUD, which I do have and it has been fine.

Hello everyone.
Just thought I would let you all know that we are trying to have baby #2. We saw the high risk OB on Friday and he has me on 60mg of Lovenox twice a day and we'll test in about a week to see where that level is. He doesn't think it will take as long for us to get pregnant as it did with my little boy. I'll keep you all up to date on how the pregnancy goes when if finally happens. I hope it will help with any questions you all have on PSD and pregnancy. I posted off and on with my little boy, it was helpful to me, helped me with the stress. (after 4 miscarriages I was real worried about him). Take care......... -------------------- I have PSD & recurrent misscarriages (4 total). Hey there everyone. I was just diagnosed today with PSD and have kind of a similar problem with the pill. My first born, Faith, was diagnosed with a rare brain malformation called schizencecphaly which my new OB/GYN believes might have been caused by a stroke in utero. I am planning on filing a lawsuit which is why I had the blood test in the first place. Now, my sister told me that being that I am on the pill it might have contributed to the signs showing up. If anyone knows anything about what I might be going through and if you have any information about the pill causing a "positive" sign in the blood work, that would be great if you could let me know ASAP!! Thank you so much!! You all are very helpful on here!!
Lots of love, Manda |

It is not advisable to be on the pill if you tested positive for PSD as it will increase the risk of blood clots. You need to find an alternative, perhaps an IUD.

Hi everyone! Just thought I would add my two cents. I have psd and was taken off the pill for a few years. I get horrible cramps and that is why I take it. Anyways, after going off the pill my bad cramps came back. My doctors have me on a progesterone only pill and that one is said to be the safest for clotting problems. The reason I can be on it is because I am on lovenox every day forever so because of the blood thinners and the fact that it is a progesterone only pill (no estrogen!) I can take them. And, better yet, the progesterone pill has less side effects!

Hello hello
I was diagnosed whilst taking the combined pill Femodene and stopped taking it straightaway. As far as I know the mini (progesterone only) pill is 'safer' to use than an oestrogen pill but it is still carries a risk. You also have to be very good at taking pills at exactly the samee time as any error can affect its efficacy!! My GP and my haematologist have recommended not using any form of hormonal contraception, so I have a simple IUD which I have had no problems with at all. (I'm still period free at the moment due to breastfeeding |
